Vehicle Conveying Foodstuffs From North to South Reportedly Set Ablaze in Enugu

Hoodlums on Monday morning set ablaze a vehicle conveying foodstuffs from the North to the South in Enugu State.

The vehicle conveying vegetables, tomatoes and other perishable items was reportedly coming from Ugwogo end of the Opi/Enugu bypass when it was stopped and set ablaze at Edem Junction, Ibeagwa, Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area.

Concerned citizens had put a call to the State Fire Service who rushed to scene in a fruitless effort to put out the fire.

Insinuations are that the hoodlums were enforcing a directive by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). IPOB denied issuing such an order and South-Easterner States Governors have warned the people against obeying the order.

A national daily, The Nation, quotes a senior police officer as saying the hoodlums were trying to frighten residents who shunned the IPOB directive and force them into obedience.

He assured that the Police would apprehend those who carried out the dastardly act.
