A video showing the moment an Uber driver was being rough handled by security operatives during the endsars memorial protest in Lagos today has continued to generate a lot of reactions among Nigerians.
Many Nigerians who were not happy with the way the policemen handled the case, condemned the attack and called on the Lagos state governor to address the issue.
As seen in the photos shown below, the Uber driver was pepper sprayed on the face by one of the police men during their struggle. The young man refused to enter the black maria as instructed by the policemen saying, he was not among those who were protesting.
The Uber driver said he came to the area to pick up his vehicle which he left behind when the police were chasing protesters earlier in the day. He showed them his Uber app and and his car key but none of the Policemen listened to his appeals.
Though many may beg to differ, this show of brutality and disregard for the dignity of the human life by the security operatives stands condemnable and should not be overlooked. It is the duty of policemen to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order during the memorial March. And not to forcefully arrest citizens and treat them like they are criminals.
As a citizen of this country, the Uber driver has every right to join the peaceful demonstration and his right must not be trampled upon unless he is seen as a threat to the lives of those around him.
This is totally wrong and should not be allowed to repeat itself.
