Today's Headlines: Court Expresses Concern Over Delay In Evans Trial, DPR Seals Defaulting Outlets

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday expressed concern over the delay in the trial of kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans.

This followed the absence of prosecution witnesses in the two cases before her court which stalled the trial of the alleged kidnap kingpin.

Evans is being tried alongside a dismissed soldier, Victor Aduba.

The defendants are facing a four-count charge bordering kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.

Evans, is an alleged kidnapper. He's also a native of Nnewi, Anambra State. He is sometimes referred to as "The Billionaire Kidnapper" because the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) believe he is one of the richest criminals in the kidnapping business in Nigeria.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has sealed some filling station selling Premium Motor Spirit (fuel) above the official pump price.

The operation was carried out by DPR surveillance team in Umuahia the Abia state capital and Ikwuano Local Government Area.

Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, the DPR Operations Controller, Umuahia Field Office, Emmanuel Okoro said the agency embarked on the monitoring to ensure that Independent markers of petroleum products were selling fuel to consumers at government approved prices.

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, has assured Nigerians of the readiness of the military to deal decisively with bandits, kidnappers and other criminals across the country.

Amao who was on operational visit to the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna, said on Wednesday that the military would deal with all criminals terrorizing the people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that during the maiden operational visit, the CAS also paid a courtesy visit on Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.
