Meet Prof Felicia Adedoyin- The Woman Who Composed The Nigerian National Pledge In 1976

  Professor Felicia Adedoyin was an icon who passed away on the 1st of May 2021. She hails from Oyo state, a princess from a ruling house in Saki. Felicia was born 6th of November 1938.

She is famous for being the female Patriot who composed the Nigeria national pledge in 1976. She wrote and published the national pledge in the daily times newspaper which was titled "loyalty to the nation, pledge". It brought the attention of the former head of state Olusegun Obasano. He modified the pledge and made it compulsory for students to recite it during assembly, which is still mandatory till date.

Professor Felicia Adedoyin went to Idi Aba Baptist school during her early days. She went on to further her studies in the UK where she got her first degree in geography from the University of London and also her diploma in education. 

She went on to have her master’s degree in social studies from the University of Columbia, before she came back home for her PhD in Unilag.

Felicia Adedoyin was a professor in Unilag before her demise. She was also a consultation to the United Nations, and she was given the highest honour as officer of the order of Niger (OON).

She has left a good legacy and a source of inspiration to girls who want to achieve great things
