Mr Ekpenyong died on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, from COVID-19 complications. He was only 64.
On the morning of Friday, March 26, at the state secretariat of the party in Atan Offot, Uyo, a brief service in his honour was conducted, officiated by the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Chairman of the party, Pastor Cletus Eshiet.
Thanksgiving Service in his honour holds Sunday.
Receiving the casket on behalf of the party, the Acting State Chairman of PDP, Rt. Hon. Lawrence Udosen, adorned it with the flag of the party, saying it is a mark of solidarity and honour to the late Ekpenyong.
Ekpenyong was a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
He prayed against the recurrence of such a sad incident in the deceased family, the party and the state. He also prayed to God to grant the mourners the fortitude to bear the loss.
A minute silence was also observed in his honour.
The motorcade conveying the late Ekpenyong’s casket, departed the party secretariat to his home town Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun local government area, where the funeral service is billed to hold.
In 2000, he was a political adviser to the then governor of Akwa Ibom state, Obong Victor Attah.
The funeral will be conducted by Delightful Christian Church International, Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard, off Idoro Road, Uyo, at 10 am, with the thanksgiving service holding two days later, Sunday, at the same venue.
State Governor Udom Emmanuel had described the passage of Ekpenyong as “shocking, painful” and an experience he will hardly recover from.
Udo Ekpenyong was born in 1957 at Ukanufun Local Government.
“As painful as it is we cannot question God, we are strengthened by the fact that God knows the end from the beginning and anything that happens he allows it,” Governor Emmanuel added.
Udo Ekpeyong leaves behind wife and children.
