The insecurity challenges in the Southeast region have continued to increase by the day. Despite, the efforts of joint security agencies to tackle the insecurity challenges, acts of violence have continued to strive in the region. In many ways, these criminals have continued to cause setbacks for the Southeast region, especially the group identified as the Unknown Gunmen. The group has been responsible for many of the insecurity challenges in the region.

One of the patterns of operation, of the deadly Unknown Gunmen group, is the attack of Police Stations, the group has attacked and razed down, several Police Stations, in the region, especially in Anambra State, and have killed serving Police Officers in the process. The attacks on Police Stations, have been a trend for notorious criminals. The Unknown Gunmen has again, attacked another Police Station, this time in Ebonyi State.

According to a report gathered from, Daily Trust, the Divisional Police Headquarters located in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State, was reportedly attacked. The attackers reportedly, freed some detainees, who were held in custody at the Police Station. The Spokesperson of the Ebonyi State, Police Command, Loveth Odah confirmed the incident to the newsmen. The increasing insecurity challenges in the region have heightened the request by prominent Nigerians, and well-meaning people for Federal Government to Proscribe Unknown Gunmen as terrorists.

Terrorism is defined as the unlawful use of intentional violence to achieve political aims, especially against civilians. The challenges in the Southeast region have not been far from acts of terrorism, the Federal Government, has, however, continue to ignore the call to proscribe Unknown Gunmen as terrorists. The first question, people will have to answer is, who are the Unknown Gunmen? Also, how can they be identified? Because these are criminals who emerge from locations, no one knows to commit crimes.

Terrorism is considered an International offense, it gives a country, a bad image in the eyes of international communities. The Federal Government is going through so much tackling the challenges posed by Boko Haram terrorists and also the IPOB group, the government has already proscribed as terrorists. In my opinion, I feel proscribing the Unknown Gunmen as terrorists will make how the international communities already view the challenges in Nigeria.
