Gunmen abduct 73 students in Zamfara community

SP Muhammed Shehu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), on Wednesday confirmed the incident in a statement in Gusau.
“The Zamfara State Police Command wishes to confirm the abduction of 73 Students of Government Day Secondary school, Kaya, in Maradun LGA.
“The abduction followed the invasion of the school by a large number of armed bandits on Wednesday at exactly 1122 hrs.
Shehu said that the Commissioner of Police, Ayuba N Elkanah, has deployed a search and rescue team with a mandate to work in synergy with the military to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.
According to him, the CP further appealed to the general public, especially parents and relatives of the abducted students, to exercise patience and continue to pray for the success of the ongoing rescue operation.
He said that security has been beefed up at Kaya community and environs to forestall further attacks.
“Further development will be made known to members of the public,” he promised.
Gulder ultimate search returns

Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc announced the return of the reality TV tagged the comeback 2021 edition with the “The Age of craftmanship.”
Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Sade Morgan, said the registration will kick off on September 1 and round-up September 8, 2021.
The first screening session is slated to begin September 13 in Abuja and Enugu, while the second screening session kicks off on September 16 in Lagos.
The TV premiere is set for October 16, 2021, and will run till December 19, which will be the grand finale.
FEC approves N89.6bn for works, aviation projects

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved contracts about N89.6 billion for projects in the Ministry of Works and Housing, as well as that of aviation.
This was disclosed to State House Correspondents after the week’s virtual FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved about N89.6 billion worth of contracts for award under the ministries of Works and Housing as well as Aviation.
The post-FEC briefing was addressed by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN); the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina; and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management, Social Development counterpart, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk.
Speaking about the approvals secured by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Fashola said contract for the dualisation of the Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Road was granted at the cost of N79.649 billion.
He explained that the approved contract is in relation to the section from Oku Iboku Power Plant to Abak, which is about 26 kilometres in length.
Navy approves base in Kano

The Navy on Wednesday approved the establishment of a base in Kano.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, broke the news when he paid a courtesy call to Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in his office.
The Navy also announced the appointment of Captain Muhammad Abubakar Alhassan as acting commander of the Kano Naval Base.
The approval for the establishment of a base in Kano comes as a response to Ganduje’s earlier request for the Navy visibility in the state, which he said would strengthening the security of the state considered as economic nerve centre of the north and west African countries.
An excited Ganduje allocated 100 hectares of land for the new Naval Base in the State.
Gambo and other naval officers were in Kano for the Chief of Naval Staff Annual Conference 2021, holding from September 1 to 4.
The Chief of Naval Staff also visited the Emir of Kano in his palace to brief him about his mission in Kano and the approval for the Kano Naval Base project.
He commended Ganduje for his efforts on successful operations of the Navy.
The Governor commended the Navy for choosing Kano for their conference.
The Governor said: “Your choice of Kano shows how concerned and confident you are with the security and safety of Kano state.
