On Thursday, the Sokoto State Police Command announced the arrest of 17 suspects in connection with armed robbery, abduction, and other criminal activities in the state. Mr. Kamaldeen Okunlola, the state Commissioner of Police, told reporters in Sokoto.
On March 4, the command arrested one Jabbi Wanto for criminal conspiracy and abduction of two people in Tamba Garka village of the state's Wurno Local Government Area, according to Okunlola.
“On March 4, at about 3 a.m., unknown bandits in large numbers invaded the village and kidnapped two persons to an unknown destination. “The villagers mobilized themselves and pursued the bandits, where the victims were rescued and Wanto was apprehended, who confessed to conspiring with one Dari Digital and Umaru Laka, both of Wurno LGA.
According to the police chief, Abubakar Altine and Dogo Buzu were arrested in Saketa village, Bodinga Local Government Area, for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, culpable homicide, and kidnapping.
He said the perpetrators had one AK47 rifle and two magazines, and the abducted victims had been reunited with their families, thanks to the command's joint squad of detectives.
