Reports reaching us has confirmed the attack on a Living Faith Church branch in Osara community, Adavi local government area of Kogi State by unknown gunmen. The report revealed that 3 members were abducted by the bandits during a church meeting on 30 August 2021.
This incident should be a wake-up call to all other churches operating in the country, as they might be the next target of bandits.
However, Churches can do the following to safeguard the lives of their members:
(1) Church Securities Should Be Properly Trained.
The securities in the church play an important role in maintaining order, as such, they should be properly trained to make their work more effective. Retired and serving military personnel who are members of the church can be of help in this regard.
(2) Private Security Companies Can Also Be Hired.
Wealthy Churches can hire a private security company for maximum protection. The guards should be present in the church premises at all times to help safeguard lives and properties.
(3) Licensed Guns Should Be Acquired By The Church.
Bandits usually attack their victims with guns and other sophisticated weapons. Acquiring licensed guns will give the security guards the morale to fight back when these evil men strike. You can't bring a knife to a gunfight.
(4) CCTV Should Be Installed Around And Inside The Church Premises.
CCTV is a necessary security device that is currently in vogue. Churches can install them around and inside their premises for proper surveillance.
(5) No Adult Should Be Allowed Into The Church Premises Without A Proper Means Of Identification.
The Church should be very strict on those entering the church. Adult members and visitors should provide a valid means of identification before gaining access to the premises. By so doing, bandits disguising as members who come to survey the church can easily be identified.
