Gunmen Kill Two In Fresh Kaduna Attack
Two people have been killed in attacks on two communities in Kaduna state.
The commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday said six people were injured in the two incidents.
Aruwan said the attacks were reported to the state government by security agents.
The commissioner said, “Security agencies have reported that armed bandits invaded Mazari, a community close to Buruku in Chikun LGA.
“According to the report, one Mariya Sale was killed in the attack. Three others were injured, identified as Ladidi Abdullahi, Zubaida Balarabe and Hauwa’u Ayuba”.
The statement said, “In another reported incident, armed bandits attacked Doka village, Kajuru LGA.
“One Bitrus Luka was shot dead, and three others were injured. The injured are: Kings Andy, Danladi Audu and Titus Friday.
"FG May Cut Salaries"- Minister
The Federal Government has proposed salary cuts for workers as a way of reducing the high cost of governance in the country.
The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, said the FG was working to reduce the high cost of governance by doing away with unnecessary expenditures.
Disclosing this at the policy dialogue on corruption and cost of governance in Nigeria organised by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in Abuja on Tuesday, she said the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has directed the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission to review the salaries of civil servants as well as the number of federal agencies.
She said the government also intends to remove some superfluous items from the budget in order to cut the cost of governance in the country.
Niger Governor Makes Case For Southern Presidency
Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has made case for a southern Presidency in 2023, saying that there is going to be rotation of positions in 2023.
According to him, “those allocated to the North would move to South while those in the south would move to North in 2023”.
Governor Bello disclosed this in Minna on Tuesday when he received in audience North Central APC Stakeholders Forum on advocacy visit.
He also said that the North Central Governors Forum has agreed that the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should be zone to north central.
Buhari Working To Rescue Kidnapped Greenfield Students- Presidency
The Presidency has said President Muhammadu Buhari is working with the military and intelligence agencies to rescue the abducted students from Greenfield University, Kaduna State.
A statement on the Presidency’s Twitter page on Tuesday, said it will ensure that good triumphs over evil, and that all of the bandits and criminals terrorizing innocent lives and communities are brought to book.
It, therefore, called on all Nigerians to unite, regardless of religion, ethnicity against the enemy.
Residents Flee Villages, Communities In South East As, Unrest Rise
South-East villages and communities are presently being deserted, going by the violent clashes between Nigerian security operatives and separatist groups such as the Indigenous People of Biafra and its security arm, Eastern Security Network.
SaharaReporters spoke to a number of affected persons who have left their villages and communities in Imo and are presently staying put at Owerri, the state capital amidst increasing fatal clashes between the police, the army and the ESN officials or those sometimes generally described as unknown gunmen.
Some victims noted that the affected villages in Imo include Oguta and Ohaji/Egbema communities; others are in Orsu and Orlu local government areas as well as Oru East and Oru West LGAs, and Agwa and Izombe communities where there have been continuous military raids on the suspected hideouts of the militants.
Baba ijesa Faces Possible Life Imprisonment
The Lagos State Government may soon charge Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as ‘Baba Ijesa’, for sexual assault by penetration, among other crimes.
The sexual assault charge is punishable by life imprisonment.
The State’s Directorate of Public Prosecutions recommended five charges “after due consideration of the facts in the case file,” Lagos State Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Baba Ijesa was recently caught on tape harassing a minor.
In a video that went viral on social media, he was also seen confessing to the crime and pleading for forgiveness.
