Two traffic robbers said to be terrorising residents in the Lekki-Ajah axis of Lagos State have been arrested after they attacked a motorist, took over the steering wheel and drove him to an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) point to withdraw money, the Lagos State Police Command announced on Thursday, August 5.
The two armed robbers, whose names were given as Samson Tella, aged 37 years and Raphael John, aged 21 years, were said to have attacked the owner of a Toyota Corolla at Ikate area of Lagos, took over the steering wheel, drove him to ATM at Ikate and withdrew the sum of N20,000 from the account of the motorist.
It was gathered that after they left with the car, the motorist quickly informed the policemen at the Ilasan Division of the state command who tracked and traced the car to a mechanic workshop at Lafiaji, Lagos Island, where the two men were arrested with the stolen car.
The motorist was also said to have identified Samson Tella as one of the robbers that attacked him during interrogation of the robbers at the police station.
According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on the Facebook wall of the command, the two robbers had been transferred to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for more investigation and possible prosecution.
According to the statement: "The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command attached to Ilasan Division have arrested two armed robbers, Samson Tella, aged 37 years and Raphael John, aged 21 years, who have been terrorising residents in the Lekki-Ajah axis of Lagos State.
"The armed robbers on 2nd August, 2021, at 9.30 p.m. attacked the owner of a Toyota Corolla car at Ikate area of Lagos, took over the steering wheel, drove him to ATM at Ikate and withdrew the sum of N20,000 from the account of the victim.
"The victim quickly informed the police who tracked down and traced the car to a mechanic workshop at Lafiaji, Lagos Island, on 3rd August, where the suspects were arrested with the stolen car. The victim has identified Samson Tella as one of the robbers that attacked him.
"The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that the two men be transferred to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for more investigation and possible prosecution."
