Imo State is currently boiling at the moment with series of attacks on security men and their buildings.
- Burnt building
Apparently, in the early hours of today, April 5, 2021, some unknown gunmen attacked and burnt down Imo Police Command Headquarters and the Owerri Prisons; both facilities are surrounded by Imo State Government House.
- Burnt cars
Over 1500 inmates were freed by the hoodlums. How these miscreants succeeded in perpetrating such heinous crimes remains a mystery because—the Army Barracks located at Obinze is just 15 minutes away from the Police HQ and Prisons.
Also, the Air Force base (Naze, Owerri) is 5 minutes to Police HQ and yet the Police HQ and Prisons were successfully attacked and prisoners set free.
In the aftermath of the attack, another group of gunmen attacked the military checkpoint at Ukwu-orji junction in Eziama Obiato in Mbaitolu LGA. They also burnt down operational vehicles of military men on the Owerri-Onitsha expressway.
- Attack on military
Presently, camouflaged helicopter can be seen flying at a very low range towards Owerri-Onitsha road and several military men have been deployed at strategic places.
If you are in Imo State right now or traveling along the state, please be careful.
