Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari and Yemi Osinbajo are working hard to alleviate the country's food problems as he acknowledged the existence of widespread hunger in the country. Over the years, many Nigerians have been facing food problems as the food production in the country has been reduced despite the good initiatives and programs by the government to develop the Nigerian agricultural sector. However, some people believe that the present administration is better than the previous one.
Here are two reasons for widespread hunger in the country.
Alleged Fulani Herdsmen Attack
One of the reasons causing hunger in the country is the issue of several reports of alleged Fulani herdsmen attacking farmers, destroying their crops by using their cattle to feed on them. The herdsmen's actions have instilled fears in farmers and made them abandon their farms, while some only focus on small-scale production only for their immediate family.
Closure Of Boarder
Nigeria has not been self-sufficient in food production, but the government hurriedly closed the border, stopping the importation of food. This has really reduced the number of food items available in Nigeria, leading to an increase in the cost of the few available food items in the Nigeria market.
What do you think is the solution to the hunger in the land? If you agree with my opinion on the cause of hunger in the country, share the post.
