"Kidnapping and Banditry Are Not Federal Offenses" - Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says that banditry and kidnapping are not federal offenses. The Minister said this in a lengthy press conference on Tuesday in response to the People's Democratic Party's press conference on Monday

Alhaji Lai Mohammed condemned the PDP for alleging that bandits and kidnappers are not brought to justice. He said that it is shocking that a party that ruled the country for 16 years does not know that banditry and kidnapping are not federal offenses. Alhaji Lai Mohammed urged the PDP to hold the states responsible in order to ensure that bandits and kidnappers are rigorously prosecuted

The Minister further stated that as far as terrorism is concerned, it is a federal offense. He said that the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari has successfully prosecuted thousands of Boko Haram members in Kainji and are now seeking the cooperation of the judiciary to prosecute other terrorists

He accused the PDP of trying to play cheap politics with national issues rather than finding solutions to it. He accused the PDP of including some of APC's ideas in their press conference and presented it as their original thoughts. The full text of the press conference is available on the Ministry's social media pages
