Video; Police Fire Tear Gas to Disperse Youths at Lekki Toll Gate.

The Nigerian Police on Wednesday, 20th of October, 2021, fired tear gas canister at the Lekki Toll Gate where Nigerian celebrities and youths held a memorial car procession in Lagos State.

Score of youths and celebrities were participating in the parade amid the heavy presence of armed police officers before they were unfortunately dispersed.

The procession, held in honour of victims of police brutality and bad governance, was organised to commemorate the one year anniversary of the #EndSARS protests held across the different states in the country that led to the disbandment of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force last year.

As earlier as 8am, many Nigerian youths filled up several cars and buses, blaring horns as they drove through the toll gate.

As the event unfolded, the number of youths at the venue grew while others came down from their cars, chanting solidarity songs.

The commissioner of police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, who was also at the protest ground, has however said the police did not disperse the youths taking part in the procession. Rather, he revealed that the police officers fired tear gas to disperse those he described as miscreants at the venue.
