In Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun state, men from the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended three adolescents for allegedly killing and stealing a motorcycle of a commercial rider, Bashiru Umaru.
The teenagers, Sodiq Awokoya, 18, Odunayo Samson, 18, and Jimoh Rilwan, 17, were arrested while attempting to sell the motorcycle they had.
In a statement issued on Thursday, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state's Public Relations Officer, stated that the investigation was ongoing.

Oyeyemi went on to say that the suspects were apprehended on Friday last week in Ogere's Tollgate Area, where they were attempting to sell the deceased motorcycle.
A police spokesperson explained: "The customer, who insisted on seeing the motorcycle's document before purchasing it, got suspicious after hearing the three suspects provide inconsistent explanations of how they came into possession of the motorcycle.

"The buyer there then covertly alerted the police in Ogere Divisional Headquarters, as a result of which the DPO Ogere Division, CSP Abiodun Ayinde, led his men to the scene and captured the three suspects.
"On questioning, they admitted that the motorcycle had been stolen from Iperu Remo, and they were subsequently handed over to police officers in the Iperu Division.
"It just so happened that the suspects were hauled in from Ogere at the same time that the relatives of the deceased arrived to file a report about their lost loved one.
"When the relatives of the deceased saw the motorcycle, they recognized it immediately and alerted the police that the motorcycle brought with the suspects belonged to their missing brother", the statement read.

When the police officers received this information, they increased their investigation into the case. Later, they learned that they had indeed snatched the motorcycle and that its owner was tied to a tree in a nearby bush.
When the police officers arrived to rescue the victim, they led the suspects to the bush, where, to their surprise, they had hacked him to death before carrying away the motorcycle.
"Further inquiry indicated that Odunayo was the individual who called the deceased and requested that he be transported to Iperu. Even though the biker was unaware of it, Odunayo had already notified Sodiq Awokoya that he should wait in a bush along with Ona Eri Area of Iperu with a cutlass and other potentially lethal weapons.
"As soon as they reached the location, Odunayo ordered the deceased to come to a halt since he had arrived at his destination.

"Awokoya came out with a cutlass and chopped the deceased to death while he was waiting to collect his money.
"When he was wiggling in agony, Awokoya stepped closer to him and grabbed his neck till he succumbed. They examined his pockets and discovered the sum of N5,500, which they took away with them as well", the statement read.
Police conducted a second investigation after learning of the occurrence, the PPRO said and learned that it was the second robbery operation carried out by the suspects.
"Their first victim was saved from being killed by the intervention of Rilwan, who appealed to the other two to spare the life of the victim after robbing him of the sum of N4,500. Because of this, Odunayo and Awokoya did not bring him along with them during their second procedure.

"The motorcycle, as well as the cutlass that they used in the murder of the deceased, have been located", Oyeyemi stated.
Although the PPRO stated that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered that they be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed, according to the PPRO, the investigation is still ongoing.
