"In Nigeria, Security Operatives Are Now Endangered Species" -Babajide Kolade-Otitoju Declares

On the Thursday edition of the Journalists' Hangout Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, expressed his thoughts on the failure of the Nigerian Security Forces to protect themselves and Nigerians from insecurity.

Here's an excerpt of Babajide Kolade-Otitoju's statement:

"Nigerians have lost hope in the capacity of the Security Forces to protect them. Soldiers are big targets for Bandits, especially along the Yobe-Damaturu highway and the Abuja-Kaduna highway. Soldiers pay huge ransom when they get kidnapped. In fact, there are many police men that a lot of ransom money was paid for them before they were released by bandits.

In some cases, when you go to the police station to complain that your person had been kidnapped, they will tell you to go and negotiate with the kidnappers, if you want your person home and alive. This goes a long way to show you that those whose responsibility it is to protect us, are indeed in need of protection because if they can't protect themselves, how will they protect you?

Security operatives in the country, are now endangered species, either in the hands of people believed to members of the armed wing of the IPOB or even Boko Haram and bandits. If these security agents are now being targeted, how on earth would they be able to protect you?

This is a really terrible situation that we are in, as a country."

Dear Nigerians, what is your take on this very critical issue of national concern?
