The Kano State Government has reacted to the recent allegations that it is planning to ban women from driving across the state. Recall that an online report claimed that the state government had concluded plans to ban women in the state from driving.
Reacting to the allegations, the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba has stated that the state government has never thought of banning women from driving. Garba disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Kano yesterday.
According to him, the story lacks credibility because it is attributed to an unverified source. He stressed that if there are such plans on the ground, the government does not need any secretive meetings to implement them.
He cited that even Saudi Arabia which previously banned women from driving has lifted the ban in 2018.
"It was interesting that some of the scholars quoted to have backed the alleged ban have already dissociated themselves from the report." The commissioner added.
