How four kidnappers, aged 20 to 32, invaded church during vigil, abducted female worshipper

Four members of a kidnap gang were on Sunday, November 29, paraded by the Ogun State Police Command after they were arrested following their invasion of a church during vigil service where they beat worshippers and eventually kidnapped one of them, the state police command announced on Sunday.

The four men, Abubakar Ibrahim, aged 38; Sulaiman Yusuf, aged 32; Ismail Yusuf, aged 20; and Umar Aliu, aged 26; were said to have invaded a church at Gudugbe Alagbon in Wasinmi area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, during vigil service last Wednesday, attacked members and subsequently kidnapped a worshipper.

They were said to have come to the church, which name was withheld for security purpose, with various weapons at about 1.30 a.m. while the vigil service was ongoing. 

According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on the website of the command, as the men invaded the church and were attacking members and later kidnapped a member, whose name was given as Mrs Mojisola Atolagbe, a distress call was put to the police at the Ewekoro Division by the sheperd in charge of the church.

According to the statement: "Following the incident, the Shepherd In Charge of the church put a distress call through to the police about the incident.

"The attackers beat some members of the church to stupor, dispossessed them of their valuables and eventually kidnapped one Mrs. Mojisola Atolagbe.

"Upon the call, the police attached to Ewekoro Divisional Police Headquarters promptly attended to the call and combed the forest close to the scene of the incident and arrested four men while other members are being hunted for.

"A cutlass, two cudgels and charms were recovered from the suspects while their case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Awolowo Ajogun."
