C'River Waste Management Director Kidnapped: The Need For The State Govt To Beef Up Security

The rate at which kidnapping has rocked Cross River State calls for concern. In the past few months, the state has witnessed several cases of kidnapping, yet it is as if nothing has been done. On Thursday night, the Director of Monitoring, Cross River State Waste Management Agency, Mr. Bassey Okon was kidnapped.

THE PARADISE gathered that Okon was kidnapped by a group of unknown gunmen in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State where he resides. It is worrisome to note that over 15 persons have been kidnapped in the State in the last one month, with the recent being the pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and a female teacher, who was kidnapped at 8 Miles in Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of the State. It took the efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Squad (AKCS) of the Nigeria Police for the pastor and the teacher to be released.

One of the communities that have become the epicenter of kidnapping in the state is the Lemna community. Over 4 persons have been kidnapped at Lemna, causing fear and panic for residents in the community.

Another worrisome thing about the kidnap cases is that these kidnappers are often driven by financial motives to kidnap their victims and hold them for ransom. It is now a full-time business for them.

This calls for serious security checks in the state as many residents no longer sleep with their eyes closed for fear of being the next victim.
