Two Officers Killed As Gunmen Burn Police Headquarter In Akwa Ibom

At least two police officers were feared dead after gunmen attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters of Ibiaku Ntok Opo, Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State, on Saturday.

A source, who spoke with SaharaReporters, said the incident occurred at 3am.

The gunmen, who were alleged to be Nnamdi Kanu's Eastern Security Network members, razed down the police station.

The source also stated that a policewoman sustained an injury in the attack while five vehicles were burnt and a flag was stolen.

Lagos To Create 395, 000 Jobs With N55,000 Monthly Pay

The Government of Lagos State is set to create no fewer than 395,000 jobs within the next few months, with an average monthly salary of N55,000.

This was revealed by the Governor of the State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the commemoration of this year’s International Worker’s Day program held at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan.

The Governor also talked about the State’s plans for workers in terms of housing, stating that his administration has been investing to complete affordable housing schemes for interested workers.

“Our goal is to create at least 395,000 jobs in the next few months, with an average monthly wage of N55,000, in the sectors and industries that have high demand for labour, like agriculture, construction and services,” he said.

Yoruba Nation Agitators, Police Clash In Ogun

Ogun Police Command on Saturday arrested 11 Yoruba nation agitators who defied the police ban on the mass rally in Abeokuta.

The rally held jointly by two groups – Ilana Omo Oduduwa and Omo Kootu Ojire Omo Oduduwa Atata – took their procession around Abeokuta in defiance of the police order barring the demonstration.

As early as 7 am on Saturday, our correspondent observed that security operatives took over the streets of Abeokuta in order to stop the rally.

Police helicopters were also sighted hovering over some areas in the state capital

A correspondent who visited the palace of Alake of Egbaland, the venue of the rally, observed joint security operatives manning strategic positions on the street. The team was led by the Area Commander of Adatan, Ayo Edun.

A young man wearing ritual gear, Zannu Williams, and 10 others were arrested in front of the palace and whisked away in a police van to the State Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Despite Insecurity Borno State Governor Zulum Hands Over To Deputy, Begins 21- day Vacation

Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, is to serve as the Acting Governor of the State until May 19, 2021, with the House of Assembly approving the letter by the Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, seeking for vacation.

Zulum had on April 23, 2021, written to the Borno Assembly, seeking the lawmakers’ approval to proceed on 21 days vacation.

The Governor had also requested that in compliance with provisions of section 190 (1) of the constitution, which made him notify the House, the Assembly should approve the Deputy Governor to serve as acting Governor throughout the 21 days, in order to constitutionally give him the full powers to handle Borno State’s affairs without resort to the Governor.
