Before now, the Southeast had prided itself as the safest zone in the country. But that is not so anymore as the region has recently been inundated with attacks, including the police headquarters in Owerri, other security formations in the region, as well as several villages where many have been killed, including security operatives with property worth millions of Naira destroyed.
The recent security breaches may have greatly jolted the Southeast governors into action by setting up a regional security outfit. Some even set up state owned security outfit.
Below are 3 South-Eastern security outfits that have been set up this year alone;
1- South-East security network, EBUBE AGU
The security unit was formed by the South-East governors on April 11 to tackle the insecurity in the region.
They were officially launched in Enugu state today April 28. See more photos of them in their uniforms below
2- Onitsha Ado Vigilante Network
Onitsha Ado Vigilante Network was floated by Indigenes of Onitsha in Anambra State to check the increasing wave of crime in the commercial city.
The security outfit was unveiled by the traditional ruler of Onitsha Kingdom, Obi Alfred Achebe, in March 2021.
3- Nnewi Vigilante Service
Nnewi Vigilante Service was floated to tackle the rising spate of insecurity in Nigeria and the Southeast, Nnewi Community in Anambra state.Members of the security outfit were reportedly been trained by the Nigeria Police Force, to combat crime and ensure safety and security of the local communities.
