The tragic incident happened on Sunday afternoon, April 18. The 18-seater bus with the Registration number; AAA 859 XC, Lagos, ran out of it’s lane and plunged into the River Owena. At least fives persons were killed in the incident while many others sustained various degree of injuries, including a five-year-old child.
An eyewitness told newsmen that the driver who was over speeding even though it was raining heavily, lost control and fell into the river from about 24 meter high. He said the rain prevented people from coming to the rescue od the victims.
Two of the passengers were identified as newly wedded couples. It was gathered that they were returning from Ikoyi where there wedding was held. The groom, Adewale, died instantly while the bride sustained injury.
The incident was confirmed by the state spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Mr. Abiola Fadumo. He said the rescue operation is still going on.
