Gunmen attack Gov Obiano’s convoy; 6 feared dead

At least six people have been feared dead and more than a dozen reportedly injured after unidentified gunmen Tuesday attacked Governor Willie Obiano’s convoy at a political rally in Anambra state.

The armed men invaded Odoata Primary School, Ihiala, where the governor’s party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was due to organise a campaign rally for the November 6 gubernatorial election in the State.

It was understood that the governor was unhurt, as a combined team of policemen and soldiers engaged the assailants in a shoot-out that lasted for at least one hour.

The gunmen stormed the venue on motorcycles and in three vehicles, TVC News reported.

They suffered serious injuries,” an eyewitness told the outlet, “even though they managed to shoot a gallant soldier.”

“If the gunmen had not run into the hospital which is a very delicate place to shoot any person, the security men would have gunned all of them down,” the source added.
