Federal Government to fix a special national day for senior citizens celebration, just like other celebration days like Independent day and others. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has given assurance that a special national day for senior citizens would be declared very soon. She gave the undoubted assurance when the management team of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) led by it Director General, Dr Emem Omokaro paid her a visit.

Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq commended Dr Omokaro for the pace at which she is settling down to work, and she hoped that, with the assemblage of the management team at her disposal, the overall objectives of the National Senior Citizens Centre will be realised soon.

According to The Sun, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has said, "I want to assure the NSCC of my resolve to follow on with the request by Omokaro, through the relevant ministries, departments and agencies". She also said " Earlier, Omokaro appealed for the declaration of a national day of older persons in Nigeria within the months of August and early September 2021 to herald the first ever National Senior Citizens day celebration in October 2021.

Recall that the National Senior Citizens Centre Act was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari to cater for the needs of the elderly people early this year. The centre is to cater for the social welfare of citizens aged 70 years and above in some important areas such as pensions, healthcare, income security, leisure and supplementary income.

Did you think this centre will favour the poor and average older citizens of Nigeria or it will only favour the politicians?
