These days, many governors in Nigeria are trying their best to perform more than their predecessors. While some are undergoing several developmental projects, others are focusing on human development and the like.
The residents of Imo State, however, need to continue to applaud the urban renewal projects being carried out by Governor Hope Uzodinma instead of castigating him.
When the Government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma unveiled the design for the new Imo City earlier this year, some of the government's opponents mocked it because they never thought the new normal could be achieved.
When the government began removing roundabouts to implement modern traffic-free projects, there were objections from a variety of groups, including renowned opinion shapers, churches, radio stations, and even commuters.
Previous Governors had said the same thing to them but had failed to solve Imo State's traffic problems; some said it was a waste of resources, while others said it was a way of syphoning funds because they still believed in the old order of clean water in a dirty bottle.
Commuters used to queue for more than three to five hours at various intersections throughout the Owerri Municipality, including the Warehouse roundabout, Government House roundabouts, Imsu junction, old Fire service roundabout, and Naze number one roundabout, to name a few before now.
However, every Imolite, commuter, and opposition parties should now be singing praises and applauding Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State, for solving one of the state's major problems in the capital city of Imo State.
With the current development and the way the urban renewal project is going in the city, the city is gradually having a new and interesting face, and very soon when all of the projects are completed, we will have a brand new capital city in Owerri. The governor needs to be applauded for this development, instead of using politics to wash down on this project.
