Doctors Strike: FG proposes N47bn hazard allowance

The Federal Government has proposed N47 billion annually for payment of hazard allowances starting from 2022 budget.

The Federal Government has also welcomed the suspension of the strike of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), which lasted for about 63 days.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, announced the increment of the hazard allowance from the present N40 billion to N47 billion in the 2022 Appropriation when he received the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) who led the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD on a thank-you visit to his office.

Buhari, Jonathan meet in private

President Muhammadu Buhari met behind closed doors with former President Goodluck Jonathan, in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

The agenda of the meeting was unknown to reporters, while no official statement has been issued on the outcome of the meeting as at time of filing this report.

Mr Jonathan, who is ECOWAS Special Envoy to the Republic of Mali, however, had been a frequent caller at the State House in the past months.

It is believed that he updates Mr Buhari on efforts by West African leaders to restore stability to the country during the meetings.

Mr Buhari recently came back from New York, where he attended the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with a special request from the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to help in restoring socio-political order in troubled West African countries.

Attacks: Group Rejects Planned State Of Emergency In Anambra

The Southern and Middle-Belt Alliance (SaMBA) has rejected suggestion by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), that the Federal Government may declare a state of emergency in Anambra State to ensure that the November 6 governorship election holds.

LEADERSHIP reports that Anambra State has come under vicious attacks on public and private entities by unknown gunmen few weeks to the scheduled governorship poll in the state.

The group in a statement issued on Wednesday evening wondered why Malami would threaten to declare a state of emergency in Anambra while ignoring the northern states of Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger States where it said a killings were going on.

Our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that a commitee led by a former Governor of the State, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala had set up a commitee to consider zoning of positions and conduct the state congress of the party.

But, a group within the party cherished Unity Forum had said that it was not part of the commitee.

DAILY POST reports that members of the forum included former Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Senators Ayo Adeseun, Femi Lanlehin and Soji Akanbi.
