Tension As Gunmen Attack Again

The Kwara state police command confirmed the incident on Monday.

Okasanmi Ajayi, spokesperson of the command, said the deceased was shot dead during a church service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Living Word Parish, Basin Road, Ilorin.

According to him, the incident happened during the 7:00 am church service of the RCCG.

“Late Sina Babarinde was called on phone and as he walked out of the church to receive the call, the sound of gun shots rented the air, which drew the attention of the congregation,” Ajayi said.

Gov. Uzodinma urges Muslim brothers to shun violence

Imo governor Hope Uzodimma has asked Muslim faithful to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to pray for the country and eschew all forms of violence.

Muslims worldwide are commemorating the birth of Prophet Mohammad, Eid-el-Maulud on Tuesday.

"I urge our Muslim brothers to fervently pray for peace, unity, and tolerance in Nigeria, and to reject all forms of violence and lawlessness," Mr Uzodinma said in a message distributed by his spokesman, Oguwike Nwachuku, to commemorate the occasion.

The governor urged Muslim faithful not only to emulate Mohammad, but also use the occasion to deepen the virtues of love, patience and perseverance which the prophet preached and stood for.

The incident occurred along the Akure-Okenne road in Kogi State, according to a statement attributed to his media office.

According to the statement, the lawmaker and his wife, Mrs. Abimbola Afolabi, had just left their home town of Ikirun on Monday morning after attending the APC State Congress on Saturday, and were dropped off by his drivers at Akure Airport to catch a connecting flight to Abuja, while his drivers continued the journey by road to Abuja.
