The security situation of Nigeria has called for serious concern, especially in recent times that the rate of crime is increasing in geometric progression. Officers of the Nigerian Army, Police, NSCDC, and other security seem to be overwhelmed, hence the need to partner with the local vigilantes arose. There have been gains since the vigilantes started working with the Nigerian security apparatus.

Vigilantes have been very helpful in combatting kidnapping because they usually have a vast knowledge of the terrain which makes it easy for them to trail the kidnappers to their hideouts. Recently, the security operatives which included members of the Police, Nigeria Army, and vigilante in Katsina state, were able to dislodge some bandits and they recovered rustled animals from their camps situated in Kadoji village in Jibia local government, and Megezoji village in Danmusa local council area very early on Sunday morning. When the bandits could not match the joint security in gun battle, they absconded leaving 102 domestic animals behind.
