When an incident like this happens, it always breaks my heart because the young life that was cut short has aspirations in life. Will their family ever heal from the sad and sudden loss? Around 6am today, a young man around the age of 19 years was allegedly shot dead by a trigger happy police officer. According to eye witness, the young man was shot three times in the head because he allegedly failed to give the police man 100 Naira at the checkpoint at Rukpokwu market junction in Port harcourt.
From the very gory video that I watched, the deceased called schoolboy can be seen in his own pool of blood with two women crying beside him. From what I could heard from the video, one of the woman crying beside him was saying "stand up schoolboy, please you will go back to school". I was so broken because this young man was trying to make a living, trying to survive and further his studies. His loss is a very big one to his family. I can't post this video here because it is contains very graphic content.
However, after the news of the incidents spread around the community, people gathered together to carry the deceased to the police station as they protest his death. According to reports by the Guardian NG, two other people were shot and killed as police officers were shooting sporadically to disperse the crowd. This whole community is in chaos as tyres were seen burning on the road. Activities in the area is currently at a stand still.
The police officer that is responsible for the death of the young man has reportedly been arrested and disarmed as investigation on the incident continues according to the police spokesman in Rivers State.
Apart from arresting the police officer that killed the Keke Driver, do you think any other thing should be done to him as punishment?
