Why Ex-PDP Chieftain Thinks Hunger May Kill More Nigerians Than Boko Haram, Kidnappers

A former chieftain of the People's Democratic Party, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, in an interview with The PUNCH, opined that hunger may do more harm than insecurity and health concerns in the country.

Dr. Eddy Olafeso

When asked his thoughts on inflation and the hike in the prices of foodstuff, Dr. Olafeso who was the immediate past national vice-chairman for PDP (south-west), said the reason for food scarcity in the country is obvious. He named insecurity as chief reason for scarcity of food.

Olafeso said farmers and fishermen have abandoned their farms for fear of being abducted, adding that the prices of feed for domestic birds has also skyrocketed such that not many are able to rear these birds as it use to be.

Olafeso said some farmlands across the country are being destroyed while some farmers are kidnapped, raped and some maimed.

For these reasons, Dr. Olafeso warned that if necessary and drastic steps are not taken to curb the ugly situation, hunger will do more harm than Boko Haram insurgence, kidnappings and even the dreaded Covid-19 virus.

"...Many Nigerians are extremely hungry, having nothing to eat. It has never been this bad, those who you think are okay are not okay at all. It is terrible and something drastic needs to be done about it..." Olafeso asserted.

Do you think hungry is deadlier than insecurity and even corona virus? What in your opinion, is the best way to put an end to food scarcity supposedly brought on by insecurity in some parts of Nigeria?
