A man who said he has stolen over 240 phones from commuters in Lagos State and also picks people's pocket has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command, the command announced in the night of Monday, February 22.
The pickpocket, Ayomide Sikiru, aged 27 years, who is a resident of Akala, Mushin, was arrested around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night after he successfully picked a Tecno Camon 12 from the handbag of an elderly woman when she was trying to board a commercial bus to Ojodu Berger.
It was gathered that the man, after stealing the phone, tried to alight from the bus but was restrained by a passenger who challenged him to return the phone he stole.
He was said to have denied stealing any phone until officers of the Rapid Response Squad of the state police command stationed at Iyana Oworo searched and found the phone along with an iphone 7 and another mobile phone from his bag.
According to a statement by the state police command issued by its Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, Sikiru disclosed that he has been in the business of pickpocketing for a year and two months after learning the trick from one Sakiru within 15 days.
He also confessed that he operates only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
