Lagos Building Collapse Killed My Pregnant Wife And 3 Children, Sent Me Into Coma - Survivor

The survivor of the building that collapsed in the Magodo-Isheri area of Lagos State on the 12th of October, 2019, Mr Emmanuel Otache, has revealed the horrific experience he had in the incident. In an interview with Vanguard, Otache narrated how the collapsed building killed his pregnant wife, three children and also sent him into coma for 7 months. 

He also spoke on how he has been making an effort to transform his situation.

Otache is from Opaha, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State. He deals in phone accessories. His wife, whom he lost in the incident, Alima Otache, was a 32-year-old woman. His first daughter, Jummai, was 13, his second child, Dominion, was six, and his last born, Daniels, was a 3-year-old boy. They were all found dead under the rubble.

The building collapsed on the 12th of October, 2019 and is said to be owned by one Mr. Fatai Biodun Odutola; a footballer in one of the Arab countries. Fatai’s alleged building collapsed on the building where Otache lived alongside his family. It was reported that the building collapsed due to substandard materials.

According to residents, the incident happened between 12:30am and 1:00am in the middle of the night. Otache was found lying unconscious while his family members were found dead. His landlord and other tenant weren’t around on the day of the incident. 

Otache was in a coma for seven months from 2019-2020. He was admitted in hospital till 2021. Otache claimed that he was in the hospital for almost two years. He had to stay in the psychiatric section in the hospital for a while since he had no accommodation after he was discharged. 

In an attempt to help him regain consciousness, all his stocks were sold by his late father. His family members also tried to raise some money.

Otache revealed that his father got killed by herdsmen when he went home to get him foodstuff on April 25. 

He is currently on crutches as iron were inserted in his body during his surgery to make him walk again. He stated that the cost of removing the iron is N6,758,960.

His medical report also says he has mental disorder. He explained that the disorder is usually triggered whenever he remembers the incident. 

Finally, Otache made it known that if he gets assisted, he will remove the iron in his body and recommence his phone business.
