The Chinese Government sentenced it's former chief of Finance Lai Lai Xiaomin to death for bribery and corruption.
The sentence has been described as harsh and undeserving but the court upheld it's original rulling saying that death was justified because Lai took “especially enormous” bribes to make investments, offer construction contracts, help with promotions and provide other favors.
Nigeria as a country is held back from achieving it's full developmental potentials due to corruption in all areas of the country.
Ministries, parastatals, politics and every other wing of the country has had it's fair share of corrupt practice since Independence.
From embezzlement, to contract fraud, to falsification of figures, bribery by the police, you name it, they are all found in Nigeria.
President Buhari's administration set out initially to fight the menace of Corruption but even the administration has been criticised by many as not being Truly corruption free. You can't fight what you are currently practicing they say.
Since the removal of fuel subsidy, the proceeds from it was originally designed to be used to development of at least one functioning refinery in the country, but years has passed and the country does not still have one functional refinery and the blame has been placed at the feet of corruption.
It becomes pertinent to ask, owing to how much corruption has destroyed Nigeria since Independence, should corruption be made a capital offence with a death Penalty in Nigeria?
