Road Accident

Trouble for Keke drivers plying major roads in Rivers State.

The Rivers governor, Barr Nyesom Wike has given the order for the arrest and prosecution of tricycle drivers commonly known as Keke drivers plying major roads in the state.

This directive was given to the Federal Road Safety corps, FRSC in the state by the state government represented by the state commissioner for transport, Osima Ginah during the flagging off of the Ember month safety campaign by the FRSC in the state capital.

You'll recall that the state government through the ministry of transportation had earlier placed a ban on Keke drivers from driving on major roads like, Trans-Amadi, Aba road, and the entire Ikwerre road. The directive was a major taken to curtail reckless driving by Keke drivers inorder to prevent the rate of accident on the road.

But as of yesterday, inorder to enforce the ban, the state government has ordered the arrest and prosecution of any Keke driver plying major roads in the state.

What is your take on this? Is this really a preventive measure against accident during the festive season?
