Police Warn Cultist Planning “8/8” Celebration

The Oyo State Police Command has warned cult groups planning to adopt and celebrate August 8, 2021, popularly known as “8/8” to desist from doing so or be ready to face the full weight of the law.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Adewale Osifeso, in a statement said cultists were planning to use the day to perpetrate large-scale violence in the state.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, has therefore warned against any illegal gathering or break-down of law as the Command would not idle by and allow hoodlums have a field day.

Osifeso stressed that the Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies will clamp down heavily on organizers, leaders and progenitors of such sinister plans.

The plan according to him after credible and duly processed intelligence by the state’s police command’s intelligence apparatus is to trigger needless episodes of retributions, bloodletting and destruction of innocent lives and properties.

The Commissioner of Police while assuring residents of the State of comprehensive security coverage, promised increased intelligence and tactical operations across the length and breadth of the state.

He urged parents, guardians and persons of influence to caution their wards and protégés to refrain from any unlawful gathering or assembly with intent to breach the peace of the State.

Hoteliers, proprietors of lounges and other recreational facilities are equally warned against consenting to the use of their facilities for cult related activities as doing so would draw the wrath of the law.
