In the early hours of today, a video showing three male seniors flogging a female junior of an arabic school in Kwara state went viral on social media platforms. Having read some reports, I felt the need to write about the lessons learnt from how the female junior was being flogged for allegedly drinking alcohol.

1. The first lesson learnt from the barbaric act of the Arabic school students is that people should not keep shut in the face of mediocrity and brutality. This is apparently because when people keep shut, the barbaric act will never end. The fact that people kept sharing and criticizing what the senior students have done was what led to the reaction of the Kwara state government. The reaction of the state government was gathered by Punch Newspaper and a screenshot about it is seen below.

2. The second lesson learnt from how senior students flogged a female junior because she allegedly drank alcohol is that jungle justice causes more harm than good. One of the ways the senior students might have settled the case of the female student was just to report her to her parents or guardian. If this was done, people wouldn't have questioned them. This point holds strongly that people should not take law into their hands no matter how awry things may appear.
3. The third lesson from this incident is that parents should be very careful of the kind of schools they take their children to. In any school, it is advisable that teachers assign punishments to students instead of subjecting them to beating like the senior students did.
The ugly incident has served as an eye-opener to the world generally. This is evident in how a good percent of people condemned the act terming it as being 'barbaric, unjust and inhumane'.
Dear esteemed Readers, having read the points raised so far, what are your thoughts concerning how the female student was being punished for drinking alcohol?
