The managing director of the corporation in person of Fidet Okhiria confirmed this to newsmen on Thursday, adding that the operation on that route is halted for a thorough investigation of the blast.
This is the first of its kind since the completion of the rail project running that route.
Owning to this, we shall be looking at two things the federal government and the Nigerian Railway Corporation can do to avert any further occurrence of such.
1. The corporation should devise a means where the Nigerian special anti-bomb squad would run a thorough check on any rail track and train before embarking on any journey.
Knowing that the rail tracks pass through lonely bushes and forest makes it vulnerable for such an attack. But with this special check by the Nigerian special anti-bomb squad, it will go a long way to avert any of such attacks.
2. Secondly, the corporation should fortify the trains with well-trained security personnel that can come to the people's rescue in the event of any attack.
The presence of security personnel in the train and some points at the rail tracks would keep check of any terrorist activities at the tracks or inside the train.
Note that the Nigerian train system has just returned after years of inactivity. This means that the Nigerian Rail Corporation has a lot to learn to catch up with the happenings and hazards centred around rail transportation globally.
