How Scammers Stole $32m From A 90-Years-Old Hong Kong Woman

According to a report the Hong Kong police released on Tuesday, April 20, a 90-year-old woman has been tricked of US$32m by scammers that pretended to be Chinese officials.

 The elderly woman who is living in a mansion on The Peak, Hong Kong’s ritziest neighbourhood fall victim to the scammers scheme after a man who presented himself as Chinese security personnel, told her that her identity has been altered and was used in a very serious criminal case. 

The fraudster made her believe that her account needs to be protected. The impersonator gave her a phone number to use in contacting them. They told the elderly woman to transfer her money to the investigation team for safekeeping and scrutiny.

One of her servants suspected that something was wrong and contacted one of the woman's daughter. But before then, she had already made 11 transfers to certain account number they gave to her.

The eleven (11) mobile money transfer the woman made amounts to the sum of US$32m.

It was gathered that the old woman is not living with her family in the mansion. She has so many domestic servants.
