Current Situation Report As Police Officer Allegedly Shot Keke Rider For N100 Bribe in Port Harcourt

According to reports, there is crisis currently going on in Rukpokwu and Rumuokoro areas of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the Southern part of Nigeria. The crisis is as a result of an incident that occurred in the early hours of today being Thursday 10th December 2020.

The report stated that a police officer allegedly shot and killed a Keke Napep rider (Tricycle) at Rukpokwu junction Port Harcourt, for refusing to pay him the sum of one hundred naira (N100) for bribe. The police officer who shot the keke napep driver, earlier asked him to pay him the bribe money before crossing the check point which led to their arguments.

An eye witness reporter who spoke to journalists stated that the keke napep rider, told the police officer during their arguments that he wasn't owing him and all his papers, licence and particulars were complete, that he can't pay anything again. Which provoked the police officer and he pulled out his gun and angrily shot him.

Another eye witness reporter who spoke to the journalists at the scene, stated that after the Police Officer shot the keke napep rider and the bystanders saw that the victim was dead, some angry youths aroused and that was how crisis and the riot started.

Currently, there has been several damages and destruction of properties around the scene of the incident since the it occurred, cars has been destroyed and other properties worth million of naira has been destroyed.
