The Governor of Ebonyi State who is the chairman of Southeast Governors Forum, Mr. Dave Umahi has said that agitations from IPOB and foreign herdsmen who invaded Southeast heightened tension in Igboland. The Governor made this statement while explaining why the insecurity in the Southeastern Nigeria is on the increase. According to Umahi who was a guest on Politics Today, a political and current affairs program of Channels TV, foreign herdsmen who invaded South East and the agitations from IPOB coupled with the activities of some cultists and armed robbers created tension in the Southeast.
The APC Governor also said that herdsmen who have killed people in the Southeast and some armed robbers and cultists who have joined in comiting crime gave rise to insecurity in the region. He went further to state that the killings in the Southeast are not politically motivated by fuelled by misguided statements of some politicians who are desperate for power at all costs. He said that insecurity in the country didn't develop overnight. On creation of jobs as a way of moving the youths away from crime, Umahi said that an enabling environment is needed to create jobs. He mention the International Market, Airport and the Shopping Mall which he is building in Ebonyi as some of the projects that will create jobs in the state.
