Police can break the door of house harboring criminals if they knock and no one responds, says Adejobi

The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday said police have the power to break the door of a house suspected to be harboring criminals if they knock and no one responds.

Adejobi was reacting to the tweet of a man who asked if it is proper and professional for policemen to come to people's houses at 1:00 a.m. in order to effect arrests.

The man, whose Twitter handle is @KareemDamilare7, had asked in his tweets why such arrests are always carried out like that, especially when policemen damage windows and break doors in order to effect the arrests.

Below are screenshots of his tweets:

Responding, Adejobi told the man that police have what he described as "Power of Ingress" which he said makes them to go into a house they reasonably suspect is harboring criminals.

He added that such power can make them to break the door of the house if they knock and no one responds.
