Theft robbery

Ogun bank worker, accomplice nabbed for robbery, N3m theft.

Dare Olagoke, an employee of the Abestone Microfinance Bank in Abeokuta, was detained on Tuesday by men from the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly conspiring with an accomplice, Idowu Tunde, to defraud him (Olagoke) of N3 million belonging to the bank.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Olagoke and a coworker, Mary Agbejo, had gone to a commercial bank in Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, to withdraw the money, according to Oyeyemi.

Residents then reported armed robbers attacking the couple as they exited the bank with the money, he claimed, and police at the Ibara divisional headquarters received a call.

The Divisional Police Officer, Ibara, SP Segun Ajao, mobilized his troops and proceeded to the spot, where Tunde was detained with the help of members of the public, according to the police spokesman.

Tunde, who was armed with a dummy gun, told the police during interrogation that it was Olagoke who told him that his employer would send him and his colleague to withdraw N3 million and that he (Tunde) should rob them of the money, according to Oyeyemi.

“He also indicated that it was the same Dare Olagoke who supplied him the toy pistol for the operation,” the PPRO continued.

"Tunde said that he came out of the backseat and pointed a gun at the lady who had the money when they were getting into the car.

“However, the lady realized that the rifle did not appear to be original, so she trailed the gun behind him and raised the alarm. The alarm drew the attention of onlookers, who pursued them and called the cops.”

He claimed that the state's acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Abiodun Alamutu, had ordered the two suspects to be immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a thorough investigation.

AlAwamutulso recommended employers conduct background checks on employees before hiring them, according to Oyeyemi.
