The report says Precious Mathew died of internal bleeding some days after the incident.
Photos of the deceased, Precious Mathew.According to a Facebook user “Peter Agba Kalu,” Precious was a drummer in his local church and lived around the areas of Ariaria International Market, which is close to Glorious Resurrection Church Stella Maris Secondary School Uratta in Abia State.
Before this ugly incident occurred, it transpired that the deceased was accused of phone theft, which he personally reported to the vigilante group in his area and he voluntarily reported the case to them - report says.
He pleaded innocence after the group investigated into the report and the case was dismissed. But as soon as his accuser learned that the case has already been dismissed, the report says his accuser became annoyed, and greeted one of the members of the vigilante group with N7000.
After collecting this bride, the vigilante group turned against Precious and tortured him greatly in an attempt to force him to confess instead of handing over to the police.
They tortured Precious until he was now unconscious, and they abandoned him. This was how Precious Mathew who was going to be 18 years later this year was rushed in that unconscious state to Amazing Grace Hospital at Tonimas Express area in Aba.
The medical practitioners there tried all they could to revive Precious but failed because the case was so bad. His mom who was now in desperation to see her son survive the torture transferred him again to another hospital, Living World Hospital, where stayed for some days struggling for his life.
But unfortunately for his mom, Precious gave up the ghost as a result of internal bleeding he sustained from the torture. That was how Precious, the first child of his parent died of internal bleeding from this torture.
So, with this kind of unfortunate incident, I think vigilante groups should not be allowed to torture a suspect. What they should do is to arrest and hand over the suspect to the police for proper investigation.
