Kidnapping

"My Cousin's Face Still Reminds Me of The Kidnappers He Carried Me To in The Forest" -Victim

A kidnap victim, Binta Mohammed, has narrated how her best friend, Halilu Abubakar, delivered her to kidnappers in the forest after she financially assisted him with his business. Binta spoke concerning her ordeal during an interview with AIT Live.

During her interview with AIT, Binta said, "He is my best friend in the family. We were ambushed, and I asked him to reverse the vehicle for us to escape, but he refused. Instead, he parked the vehicle and removed the keys. They searched me and looted everything. The kidnappers slapped me and flogged me, but they didn't touch him or ask for anything from him. They later came back to torture me and demanded money. The kidnappers slept off, and I managed to escape. Unfortunately, I fell into the hands of another gang of kidnappers."

Narrating further, the victim said, "The new gang of kidnappers caught me and promised to help me. They took me to their den, where they told me that people were searching for me. The new kidnappers demanded N30 million and asked me to pay the ransom before regaining my freedom. They threatened to take me to Boko Haram in Zamfara state if I failed to meet their demands. Seeing my cousin's face still reminds me of the kidnappers I spent two months with while in the forest. I have been lost sleep since the incident, and I want justice."

Revealing how he lured his victim, Halilu said, "I owed her N1.4 million which, I was supposed to pay since December 2020. I know Nuhu and Rasheed, who are both kidnappers. I asked Binta to accompany me somewhere to collect money from someone, she followed me out of trust. Furthermore, I had earlier discussed with my accomplices and instructed them to kill Binta after extorting money from her."
