42-year-old man found with single-barrel gun hidden in bag of garri inside commercial bus

It was the end of the road for a 42-year-old man who was found to have concealed a single-barrel gun in a bag of garri inside a commercial bus as operatives of the Delta State Police Command arrested him inside the bus during a stop-and-search duties, the command announced on Monday, October 11.

The man, whose name was given as Kelvin Pigi, aged 42, from Ututu Oma town, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, was arrested by the patrol team attached to Ovwian Aladja Division of the state police command inside a commercial bus full of passengers.

It was gathered that when the patrol team flagged down the bus on Sunday around 10:30 p.m., they asked all the passengers to come down for search and during the search, the locally-made single-barrel gun was found inside the bag of garri which was later found to belong to Pigi.

Following the discovery, Pigi was promptly arrested and during his interrogation, he was said to have confessed that he was the owner of the gun, adding that he was taking it to a buyer in Ughelli when he was arrested.

The incident was announced by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, which added that the man had given the police command useful information about his activities.

The police added that more investigations are ongoing after which the man would be prosecuted in the court of law.

Part of the statement by the command read: "Patrol team attached to Ovwian Aladja Division while on stop-and-search duty intercepted a commercial bus carrying some passengers.

"The operatives, upon searching the passengers, recovered one locally-made single-barrel gun concealed in a bag of garri which belonged to Kelvin Pigi from Ututu Oma Town, Ughelli South Local Government Area, aged 42 years. He was promptly arrested.

"More investigations are ongoing after which he will be prosecuted in the court of law."
