The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has firmly refuted that any of its personnel fired a shot at Mr Omoyele Sowore on Monday.
Speaking on behalf of the police command, in a statement on Monday, Mariam Yusuf, the spokesperson, stated that contrary to the claim, police personnel deployed to the scene quickly and professionally restored order at the protest area.
The statement "Police restores tranquility at the Unity Fountain" says, "The FCT Command wishes to dispel the viral message on several social media platforms which allege "Omoyele Sowore was shot by a female Assistant Commissioner of Police" at the Unity Fountain."
Citing supposition, it is to be noted that professional police operatives restored tranquility at the Unity Fountain following unrest by a group of demonstrators who attempted to cause a public disturbance.
Police officials on the other hand, in order to prevent any collapse of the law and order, had to deal with the rioters who were involved in acts of property damage and other criminal acts. It's unclear whether or not such an incident occurred around the time of this publication. As a community, the command stresses inhabitants to be calm and law-abiding while also reaffirming the city's commitment to the protection of people and property within the FCT.
