Finland authorities 'arrest Simon Ekpa'
Finland authorities on Thursday arrested a man said to be a Nigerian popular separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa.
According to a Finland news outlet HS, the police escorted the separatist out of his apartment in Lahti.
The platform claimed that they had gone to Ekpa’s residence for an interview but to their surprise, the Finland police, KRP, answered when the HS team rang the separatist bell.
The HS said the KRP prevented their team from entering Ekpa’s apartment and said that the interview would be moved “to the future”.
As of the time of this report, The PUNCH can’t independently confirm Ekpa’s arrest.

Gunmen attack police station in Abia
Gunmen on Thursday invaded and burnt the Ugwunagbo Divisional Headquarters of the Police Force of the Abia State Command.
It was gathered the two police officers who were on duty at the time of the attack were overpowered by the gunmen who later set the premises ablaze.
It was learnt the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who was also the target of the gunmen, escaped death as he was reportedly not in his quarters during the attack.
Unconfirmed reports said the gunmen freed suspects and carted away riffles at the station.
Sources in the area, who confirmed the attack on the police station, said the hoodlums may have considered the police station as a soft target knowing the strength of the men on the ground.
Abia Police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the attack on the police station.
Election: Rivers ADC adopts Obi as a preferred presidential candidate, hands over 5000 polling agents
African Democratic Congress(ADC) in Rivers State has announced the endorsement of the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi as her preferred candidate for the February 25 Presidential elections.
This was disclosed by the governorship candidate of the ADC in the state Chief Tonte Ibaraye at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The gubernatorial candidate, who noted that the state was only toeing in the direction of the National leadership that first endorsed Mr Obi, the party through careful consideration and discussion threw it weight behind him.
He said: I believe that Peter Obi is the best candidate for the job, and I am confident that he will serve our country well.
“He has a proven track record of leadership and has demonstrated his commitment to improving the lives of everyday Nigerians.
“He has a clear vision for the future, and I believe he has the skills and experience to make that vision a reality.”
However, Ibraye noted that as proof of his endorsement, he will hand over 5000 polling agents to support his effort on the voting day.
“I would like to announce that I will be giving Mr Obi access to my 5000 polling agents to support his campaign effect. I know that with their help, Mr Obi will be able to reach more voters and spread his message to hope and change across the country” he said.
Presidential Elections: Vote for a candidate that will promote unity of Nigeria – Seyi Makinde
The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has enjoined voters in Oyo state to vote for a presidential candidate that will promote the Unity of Nigeria.
Governor Seyi stated this during the gubernatorial candidate debate grilled by Edmund Obilo at the Splash/LageluFm, where 4 other Oyo governorship candidates were present. This was held on 22nd February 2023.
He said, ” people should vote for our senators; they should vote for our reps and for the presidential candidates; they should vote for unity of Nigeria and inclusivity for Nigeria.”
He added that people should vote for PDP senatorial and house of representatives candidates.
Appeal court affirms Victor Umeh as LP senatorial candidate in Anambra
The court of appeal in Awka, has affirmed Victor Umeh as the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the Anambra central district.
Olubunmi Oyewole, judge who read the judgment via zoom on Thursday, said the court allowed the two appeals filed by LP and Umeh.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Uche Ekwunife, the senatorial candidate of the PDP, had sued Umeh before the federal high court on the grounds that he did not resign from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), before picking the LP ticket.
On January 27, Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, upheld the PDP’s case and disqualified Umeh.
In the judgment, the court of appeal held that the federal high court erred when it disqualified Umeh as the party’s candidate.
The appellate court held that the suit was statute barred having been filed out of time. The court also agreed that the respondents lacked the locus standi to file the suit.
The judgment of the federal high court was set aside and Umeh was affirmed senatorial candidate for Anambra central district.
Tinubu begs citizens to vote for him in last campaign statement
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has appealed to Nigerians of voting age to cast their ballot for him in the 25 February, Saturday poll.
Mr Tinubu, in a statement he personally signed on Thursday and made available to journalists, said that he and running mate, Kashim Shettima, will dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to working for the greatest good and happiness of the greatest number of Nigerians if elected.
He said while he will build on the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, especially in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture and poverty alleviation, he acknowledged that there are also some sectors where new approaches will be adopted and new priorities stressed.
“What is clear is that the Office of the President of Nigeria is not one of pleasure. Rather, it will demand the highest standard of hard work, discipline, focus, determination and commitment on the part of the next President,” Mr Tinubu said in the statement.
The former two-term governor of Lagos State said, if elected, he and Mr Shettima will replicate the developmental programmes they implemented in Lagos and Borno states respectively as ex-governors.
