Bandits Kidnap Dozens Of Students In Zamfara

An unknown number of children were abducted from the Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Zamfara State's Maradun Local Government Area.

Bandits reportedly kidnapped the students at noon on September 1, 2021, when they stormed the school.

Officials have yet to issue a statement on the kidnapping, but it is the latest school attack in the state.

Last month, 20 students and workers from the College of Agriculture and Animal Health in Bakura, Zamfara, were kidnapped and released 11 days later, just last week.

The 317 schoolgirls kidnapped in February from Government Girls Secondary School in Zamfara were also released a few days later.

Since last December, hundreds of students have been abducted from schools in Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Edo, Benue, Zamfara, and Plateau, a major increase following high-profile kidnappings in Chibok, Borno, in 2014, and Dapchi, Yobe, in 2018.

The majority of the students have been released as a result of discussions between the government, or their families, and the kidnappers, but many more are still held captive, with some being killed by their abductors.
