In another case, an enraged mob in Warri is said to have set fire to a suspected tricycle thief.
The tricycle was kidnapped by four armed men at Hausa quarters and taken to the Warri/Sapele route, according to the police spokesperson.
Following a distress call, Adafe said, a police unit from Warri's "A" Division pursued the gang, adding that one of the suspects, 22-year-old Efe David, fell from the tricycle and was detained, while three others escaped with the tricycle.
Another gang member, he said, was apprehended by vigilantes who also took part in the operation.
“The vigilantes were overwhelmed by an enraged throng, who greeted the culprit with jungle justice by burning him on fire. The trike, as well as a cut-to-size double-barrelled revolver with two live ammunition and some suspected stolen jewelry, were recovered,” according to the PPRO.
